The Kratošija grape variety in Montenegro goes back to (at least!) the 15th century. This Kratošija wine from the Keković winery in Montenegro’s Lješkopolje region is from young vines harvested in 2022, and reveals a youthful freshness while pointing to ageability potential.
On the nose are fruit scents from cherry and mulberry to plum and sloe berry – even cherry blossom - and notes of cedar and oak (French barrique ageing) and a flinty minerality.
The palate reveals a linear structure with juicy acidity interwoven throughout the vibrant red and dark fruit tones – lingonberry, blackcurrant, black cherry – and nuances of carob and cayenne pepper spice.
Vibrant yet elegant tannins and just a touch of refined bitterness. Enticing now. What will these vines deliver in five to ten years ?!
