Although 5 years old, this Cabernet cuvée of Sauvignon (85%) and Franc (15%) is still quite young and shows why Matalj is one of Serbia’s premier winemakers.
There’s immediate freshness on the nose with clean fruit aromas – blueberry, blackberry, cherry, also some cedar (18 months ageing in French oak), and even a whiff of hazelnut.
The palate is romanced with notes of tobacco, blackberry and plum, and hints of licorice, cocoa-rich dark chocolate, a bit of carob and vanilla pod, and a touch of black cherry. Some gentle spice on the finish.
The alcohol - 14.5% – is confident yet not overbearing, just like the tannins, whose youthful grip is just enough to nod to the wine’s longevity potential.
Juicy minerality, firm but elegant acidity, and a lingering fruit & spice finish complete this artistically structured wine. |
